PRIVACY ISSUES
The primary purpose of these family trees is to preserve the history
of the families and to enable contact between members. So I include
living members and a method of contact if I can. If for any reason you
would like your contact details excluded please let me know.
ABBREVIATIONS b born, bp (or chr.) baptised, , bur buried,c about, chn children, d died, dr daughter, fr father, ,Hamps=Hants=Hampshire, lab labourer, m married, m2 2nd marriage, sp spouse, St Saint or Street, FS=www.familysearch.org, Th Thomas, W widow, Wm William
DATES Month is after day. So 3.4.1770 is 3rd April not March 4.
NAVIGATING THIS FILE Control-f opens a window lower left where you can enter a keyword like your ancestor’s name or ID from SUMMARY. Next to it are up and down arrows for the next occurrences of the keyword. Choosing kit as a keyword and a few uparrows will take you to the start of the file. Choosing summary will take you to the SUMMARY. Control-end will take you to the end.
1. THE NUMBERING SYSTEMS USED
(i) Each tree starts with a person with generation 0 and ID 0:
0 0-Jo BLOGGS m1 sp-Joan, m2 sp-Harriet. So he had 2 wives, the 1st being Joan.
Their children are generation 1 (as in 1-Richard BLOGGS) and numbered in order:
1 1-Richard BLOGGS
2 1-Denise BLOGGS
3 1-Fred BLOGGS
The children of say Denise are generation 2 (as in 2-John SMITH), & numbered
21,22, ...
2 1-Denise BLOGGS m sp-Dun SMITH
21 2-John SMITH
22 2-Marge SMITH
23 2-Fred SMITH
So each time someone has children, they are inserted after their previous sib
(or after their parents if they have no older sib),
& before their younger sibs.
(ii) To make this descendancy chart look like a conventional family tree,
you need to put all the pages of the tree together as one vertical sheet,
then turn it on its side with the left margin at the top. Now draw horizontal
lines between all siblings. The top line will join all the 1-, that is 1,..,5.
The next line will join all the 2- but be broken so as not to cover any 1-.
So it is in 2 parts: the first part joins 21, 22, 23 and the second joins 31,
32, ..., 38. The 3rd line joins all the 3- and breaks whenever a 1- or 2- occurs.
The 4th line joins all the 4- and breaks whenever a 1- or 2- or 3- occurs. And so on.
(iii) Those marked 1- are siblings. Those marked 2- are siblings or first cousins to each other. Those marked 3- are second cousins to each other or closer.

A great KENT genealogy site is

Deal, St Leonards, index CMB 1837-1956

*The North Downs Way
The North Downs Way is one of the main highways pilgrims took. It loops thru
Folkestone on the coast reaching towards Dover on the E then N thru Canterbury.
On the cliff edge coast of Folkestone is a 3000 year old site where Iron age
corn grinding stones were made, mostly for sale via the sea. Folkestone is the
place where folks got their stones. In 1904 the poet Hilaire Beloc wrote a
Canterbury tale for Cristians re 'The Old Road' from Farnham to Dover.
On the way is England's oldest oak - 900 years, Kingswood were robbers lurked.
The Pilgrims Way to Canterbury Cathedral was built 595 by Augustus, its 1st
Archbishop . In 1170 Thomas Beckett was murdered there by Henry 2, starting the
pilgrim tour to pay him homage. In 1179 Louis 7 of France came to pray for his
son & issued a charter when his son recovered. On the road to London is the hostel of St Nicholas for lepers in Harbledown with a relic of Thomas Beckett.
And the well of the Black Prince, Edward of Woodstock, hero of battles with
France. He paid penance at the well for those he was about to kill.
The Whitehorse Stone of Kent, 5500 years old, was used by Saxons c455. The
body of the Saxon king Hengies O horta, was lain over this stone.
West is Down House where Charles Darwin wrote 'The origin of species', then
on orchids. The idea that plants had sexual parts was highly offensive to many.
